Rain. It is still raining. Today I slept in a bit due to a long but enjoyable evening at the pubs with Grace, Ashley, Alison, and Naomi. After eating breakfast and loading on the layers a few of us ventured out on a day trip to St. Andrew. The weather was most uncooperative, but that did not really slow us down. Once we arrived we all walked down to the golf course that St. Andrew is famous for and watched some golfers swinging away in the drizzle. The view from the course is beautiful overlooking the ocean. We walked through town to take a look at what remains of St. Andrew's castle-which also has a pretty amazing view of the town and the ocean. There is a tunnel on the castle grounds that is carved through the stone that we couldn't resist climbing into. That was my favorite part of the castle besides the views, but the tunnel is definitely not for those who fear tight spaces. Starting to feel the hunger, Alison, Grace and I walked into the city center in search of a seafood meal. We found the perfect place! Right inside there was cold chest with an array of sea creatures ready to be wrapped up and taken home for dinner, and also a take away menu. The sneaky part is that there is a restaurant hidden in the back where there is a larger menu. Al and Don happened to walk in while we were there, so we all sat down for a bite together. It is my favorite when we eat out as group because we share and thus get to try more exciting foods. I had white and brown crab stuffed in the shell of a crab, chips and a cup of tea, Grace had salmon and a salmon cake, Al had mussels and swordfish, Don had a kind of lobster/crawfish and pate, and Alison had an IRN BRU. Everything was delicious, and so fresh. That meal took a while, so by the time we paid our bill it was time to head back to the vans. For some reason we separated from Don and Al and got lost, and where we were was not on the map. So we backtracked a bit and got back on the map at which point we had five minutes to spare when this fellow in large University of St. Andrew van stopped and asked us if we were lost and while trying to help us just offered to drive us there. So after telling him he was not allowed to kidnap, murder, or harm us in any way we accepted. This fine gentleman's name is Oliver, and he quickly drove us right to where we needed to be and got us to the vans in time. So now I have to name my firstborn Sam MacDonald after the man who got us to Harris after we missed the ferry, and now my second-born Oliver for saving our butts when we were lost in the rain and pinched for time - or I'll get 2 dogs and name them Sam MacDonald and Oliver;) So we made it back to Hospitalfield safely and took and took a little rest before dinner which was minced meat pie with potatoes and a lime parfait for dessert. After dinner we all hung out a bit, and then Ashley and I walked back into town to see if she could find a potential interviewee that she had met the night before. When we got to West Port some of the other ladies on our trip were already there with Al, and surprise, there was a live band covering classic rock songs! So we hung out with them and listened to these 50 something year old men rock out, and they were really good musicians and entertainers. By 11 I was pooped, so Ashley, Megan and I walked back and hit the hay.
