Today I woke up at 7 a.m. And think it is because there is a clock near our window that chimes on the hour. So I got ready and had breakfast before anyone was up:) I got my laundry ready for our pending laundromat outing and found the hotspot in the castle for wifi...which is awkwardly located right outside Don's room, so this morning Grace and I sat outside his door uploading photos and blog posts. I met Willy the retired director of Hospitalfield, he is one terrific fellow. Although he is retired, he still does a lot of work at Hospitalfield and otherwise. He told me about his current big project which is completely gutting and renovating an old farmhouse for him and his wife. He showed me tons of pictures on his iPhone to give me an idea of what he is doing, and it looks like quite the undertaking. Hopefully I will get a chance to go see it and possibly help, when I offered he said, oh no you don't want to do that, you'll get dirty you know. I replied, yes, I know. Anywho, went into town and did my one load of laundry for roughly 5 pounds which is kind of spendy but it will be worth it when I don't smell like crap:) Came back and had a lunch of hummus with pita bread along with a purée that I believe was composed of squash and carrots? I ate a fair share which made me proud of myself. After lunch we drove downtown to familiarize ourselves and to see the Arbroath Abbey (the photo representing this blog post) which is very beautiful and the graphics for the informational signage in and outside of the museum was very clear, interesting and overall well done. I tried a smokie today, which is a kind of cooked fish that Arbroath is famous for. Lots and lots of fish bones though:( We drove back in time for a short cat map before dinner which was a delicious lasagna (with a ton of huge mushrooms which I have not seen before) with garlic bread and salad, followed by this chocolate cake roll with a thick chocolate mousse that was real dang good. Shortly after dinner we went downtown to The Foundry Pub to listen to a band play folk music. The band was a compilation of a pianist, fiddler, snare drummer, and three accordion players that were all well into their 70s or 80s. With our group alone we filled most of the space, bit there were also a few groupies (the wives) and a table of 6 or 7 of the band's home boys also in their 70s or 80s. I tried a Tennent and a McEwans 80 tonight, and I definitely preferred the latter of the two. The music sounded a bit like polka so I went and asked the table of home boys if any of the fine young gentlemen would care to dance with me, and one man claimed there wasn't enough room. I told him a good lead knows how to work with a small space, and he continued to volunteer one of his friends who blushed and hid behind his beer. Rejected, I went back to our group of tables who were cheering for me and dealing stanky faces to the table of unsportsmanlike senior citizens. I wad soon consoled at the taste of Allison's Baileys and whiskey, and by her response to the bartender's question of "How do you like your baileys and whiskey?" and responded "It was delicious. What is in it?" "..........Baileys and whiskey."-bartender Soon after we left for Hospitalfield, and now for some rest.
