Seven of us left from the bunkhouse today at 7 a.m. to go on an optional 8 mile hike, which I of course could not pass up. Ashley, Allison 1 & 2, Katie, Don and I started out. Prof. Allison decided against the hike to take pics and rest after a mile, so the rest of us went on following the trail. The main attraction is a large cliff with the biggest overhang in the UK, but we also hiked past a dam, three lakes, and a decayed sheep. At the base of the cliff is a lake where we had our lunch, and then started on our way back. We turned around pretty quick because halfway through our lunch the midgens discovered our presence and started swarmping around biting us. On the way back we stopped by one of the many mini waterfalls because Ashley had been wanting to cut her hair off, and while on the hike decided it was time. It took a couple of minutes but Ashley was finally able to cut through her ponytail. Now she a very nice bob. Since we arrived in Scotland I have been wanting to go swimming in all of the beautiful water here, so when we reached the second lake on our hike back I jumped in. It was very very cold, by also very very awesome. The water here is so clear and beautiful I couldn't resist. Unfortunately I didn't stay in long because of time and because I probably would have gotten pneumonia. Did I mention that the water was real cold? We only saw 2 other people right at the end of our hike, had they shown up any sooner they would have gotten a full moon, and found my underwear that I accidentally dropped on the trail...woops. The last mile to the van warmed my up and I slept the hour back. After quickly changing clothes the whole group went to the Harris Tweed Shop in Tairbert and then stopped at a bridge on the way back to picked mussels out of the stream for dinner. Grace and Allison had gone fishing with our fisherman best friend Murdo and he gave them scallops that he had picked while diving earlier in the day for us to eat. So tonight we had fresh mussels and scallops, and burgers/hotdogs for dinner, along with cake to celebrate Courtney's 21st birthday. After procuring a food baby, I took a shower and have climbed into bed at about 10:30 p.m. because tomorrow we have to wake up at 4:00 a.m. to clean get in the vans at 5:30 so we can not be late again for our ferry at 7:30!
