A slow start this morning and time for a cooked brekky of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon...I can see this is becoming a habit! Gadi spent a while fixing a few things - I am thinking he could start a 'Fix My Anything' business while we are on the road - and I cleaned out the car freezer. Um, I think the fact that there are two tubs of coffee ice cream as well as quite a few mint choc chip ice creams cones and only a couple of packs of frozen meat says something about our food preferences!
We visited the Main Corner in the centre of town, which houses some great free activities for visitors including an art gallery, a Haigh Chocolate display and an excellent movie about how the volcanoes in the area were formed.
After this we had a picnic in the park and then wandered over to one of the many cafes for an indulgent coffee and cake. We spent the afternoon visiting the crater region including Valley Lake and Centenary Tower with its magestic views.
Back at the Showgrounds we enjoyed our first communal happy hour, complete with guitar and singalong. People here have come from all over Australia, each with their own interesting story and reason for travelling. Here's to more happy hours and shared stories!
After dinner we went back into town to the cave garden to see the Indigenous light show and the Umpherston sinkhole which is lit up at night and you are encouraged to feed the possums.
Amazing how tired you get from this outdoor lifestyle. So, from Mount Gambier in south east South Australia, good night and sweet dreams.
