Today we spent the day exploring Adelaide and its surrounding suburbs and towns. The day started with rain but ended with warm late afternoon yellow sunshine!
Dare I say it, but we stopped first in Mount Barker to shop at Aldi. Also filled the gas bottle at BCF and Gadi bought expensive 'stuff' at Battery World. We drove to Hahndorf, which is a cute little German town in the Adelaide Hills and we walked through the Main Street enjoying window shopping. We then drove to Mount Lofty Summit to see the view across the city, but were disappointed as the weather wasn't very clear and the area is not dog friendly so we didn't stay long there nor at the nearby Botanic Gardens, where we ate a picnic lunch on the grass in the car park - and still got told by a patrol officer that dogs are not allowed (grrrrr).
Next we took the freeway into the city and explored North Terrace with its impressive old buildings including Adelaide University, the Art Gallery of South Australia and Government House. We really loved all the parks and gardens that surround the city and how well laid out and easy to navigate it is.
Mid afternoon we drove south to the iconic beach suburb of Glenelg, with its tramway running all the way to the beach. We strolled along the sea front and enjoyed the beachy vibe. We sat outside to eat a delicious lunch at a local Asian restaurant.
Then we continued south, stopping at Port Noarlunga, which we really loved, with its village feel and stunning cliffs now bathed in late afternoon sunshine. We also stopped at Maslin Beach, famous for being Australia's first nudist beach in 1975. We continued south as far as Aldinga before heading back to our campsite at Clayton Bay, just in time to see a splendid sunset over the lake.
Today was a long, but lovely, day out as we continue our journey west.
Good night all xx
