It felt like a long day on the road today, packed with sightseeing. We started the day at our campsite perched on top of a cliff at Coles Point. What a stunning place to wake up to. The weather was sunny and wind still. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and brekky sitting in the sun watching the waves break on the beach below.
We left Coles Point by mid morning and headed north, visiting the towns of Elliston and Venus Bay as well as some stunning cliff top scenery along the way. In particular in between these two towns we found a scenic drive that included Woolshed Cave, with steps down to some spectacular rock formations, deep crevices in the rocks and a huge cave filled with water. We also visited The Tub, another cave with stagnant water inside that could only be observed from the top.
We ate lunch in Elliston overlooking the beach. Finally we stopped for the night at Murphy's Haystacks, a private farm with stunning massive boulders rising up in a green field. Camping overnight is allowed, which is great as it allows you to walk around the rock formations during the day and again at sunset.
Made nachos and roasted veggie pizza for dinner, which we ate outside against the backdrop of the boulders against the darkening sky.
We sat outside until it got too cold and it was time to head inside our little home on wheels.
It is starting to feel like we are very far away from home. There is not much distance now until we reach the Nullarbor, so this great Aussie icon is fast becoming reality for us.
Good night from the far west of the Ayre Peninsula.
Sweet dreams xx
