We lost
Although I am certain we only played 29 mins in the second half. We were up 6-3 at half time even though they were much bigger and better than us. I said at the end of my half time speech that we had to make sure they did not score for the first 10 minutes of the second half, which had to build on their confusion/doubts. They scored from a penalty ( no idea what it was given for) after 2 minutes and then we built a lovely flowing attack only to have the winger with one man to beat cut inside and try a drop goal. They slowly made their way back into our half and the referee gave them a penalty on our 10 metre line for us crossing in a maul situation. Never, ever seen that given before. We argued. 10 metres. They kicked the 3 points and the hooter sounded. End of match 9-6 to them. I told Pale to object that there were still 10 minutes to play but he didn't. To be fair the better side one but we could have done it.
Better news. Now have my ticket to Ambila in the front seat of the taxi-brousse for 7 a.m. on Thursday 23rd December. I have to be there by 6.15 a.m then they guarantee to get me to Brickaville in time to get the 4x4 to Ambila the same day.
After that I treated Pale, who had done all the booking with people who only spoke Malagase, to dinner in a French restaurant that I have had my eye on for a while. We had two large beers before eating, a glass of wine with our meal (steak flambee for me and duck for him + 3 vegetable courses), a dessert for Pale and a really good espresso for me for £18. Very expensive but it was almost a celebration, had we not lost. More importantly Pale told me where the American institute is, a 20 minute walk, where they have a lending library. Best news yet. I shall go there on Tuesday.
