Again the picture is from their library and irrelevant, I just liked the name apparently it's Dogon country.
I have decided when I return I am going to live in Amsterdam…………….. or anywhere else where they don't have hills and it's been a very up and down day in more than one sense. It started off badly when I made the appointed meeting with the minister but he didn't and his assistant couldn't get hold of him. I have left the hotel phone number otherwise I will just have to go again tomorrow. Apparently he is opening a competition there at 10. Damn and blast.
Then some goodish news in that the colleague of the banker (I think that's spelled properly) who went on holiday contacted me to meet at noon. I cancelled because I thought I would be meeting his eminence so should meet her tomorrow. It is a female this time unless men are called Nadia.
Also this a.m. I got an apologetic email from Volatiana who I have not seen since she picked me up from the airport. Apparently her father and daughter both have flu. Talking of which, it rained or rather drizzled for about 10 mins this morning. I hope that doesn't mean mozzies are on their way.
I then met the ever reliable Brian and told him we wouldn't be bed shopping as I had decided to move into the studio meuble. He came with me for a look and agreed especially because Eerie (spooky by name only) was having 2 new electric points put in especially for me. I negotiated the price down from 3,500,000fmg (Malagasy francs) to 3 million or 600,000Ar about £200. More than I at first calculated but still reasonable I think given its location. It's < 10 mins walk from MoY and only 5 from downtown Tanna. I did raise the issue of security (my French is improving fast) and Eerie and Brian discussed it in Malagasy and decided between them that I would be better off upstairs in another apartment that will become free tomorrow not just because of the security issue (there is a guard outside at night like evry other hotel in the city) but because it has wi-fi. That was the clincher so I move in the first of the month Wednesday.
Unfortunately Brian, who is a very honest chap I've realised, insisted I walk back up that flaming hill again to apologise to the people who would lose their commission on the places they showed me yesterday. I did walk and did apologise and they obviously appreciated my effort and wished me "bon continuation" which I assume means good luck for the future. It feels very comforting to have something sorted out for the next month; even if I don't know which studio it will be I will have an address from Wednesday. I think I deserve a beer.
Mike, current score will then be Beer 3 - 0 Mozzies. I wonder how long that will last.
Interesting notes: Just about every taxi is a 2CV and they break down and are repaired in the middle of any given street.
This is an email I received today from the bank: I accuse reception of your email.
If you're available today at 04:00, I'll be glad to receive you, or tomorrow at 11:00.
Sincerly yours.

Sounds like someone I shouldn't argue with
(Apparently) I use the word apparently and (brackets) a (ridiculous) number of times in (an average) blog but that (might be) just my opinion. And this man is thinking of teaching English to foreigners.....apparently.

DavidB I need a steer on what I can tell the chap at Laithwaites. Please advise... .........I suggest you tell him nothing and substitute a Joyce for a Moloney. Alternatively you could tell him I am deceased and see if he offers you a bottle of champagne as condolence........
