Day 13 Loch Ness to Carbisdale Castle
Friday - 60 miles
Another day, and only one to go! :-)
Loch Ness was sunny as I left at 8.20am but it didn't take long for the rain to catch up with me. Fortunately it was light and over quite quickly.
Not a bad ride today. Pretty uneventful and not very attractive countryside. There was a hill, about 12 miles after leaving the youth hostel that I'd quite forgotten about since last year. 15% gradient and 3/4 mile long. I walked it last year and this year? Walked it again. :-( It's going to take a lot more training and a better set of gear ratios before I'm climbing a beast like that! Still, sometimes it's nice to vary the type of exercise.
Carbisdale is a nice old castle. It's not in the greatest condition, or at least it's like a grubby school in feel. Big old rooms but no money to spend on them. Basically could be nicer but still the most glamorous hostel I've stayed in so far. But not my favourite. Clun, Stirling and Glen Coe are all great. Loch Ness is also one of my favourites, mostly because they've got atmosphere, friendly staff and they're clean!
So that's it for today. Tomorrow is the last day and thank goodness. After all, I'm looking forward to going back to work on Monday and I would want to be late! :-)
See you all again soon. I'll try and blog tomorrow if I can, from the finish line. With last years 430 miles and this years 800 plus, I think I'm going to have to scratch my head as to what to have up on the John O'Groats signpost! "A Journey Of Two Halves" I quite like that!
