First things first, I have a very promising lead on a job. The company called me today to offer me the job and to come in to sign the contract. 3/4 of the way there, they asked to reschedule until monday. But they called later saying that I need to come in to do a practice lesson so I can show the students and parents that even though I'm Asian I can still speak perfect English and am a good teacher. It's such a ridiculous expectation of Chinese parents that their kids English teachers have to have blonde hair and blue eyes. But Im happy that the man I've been talking to in the school Im trying to get a job at seems to be very adamant that my appearence should not affect whether I should get the job or not. He has however asked me to tell people that my dad is vietnamese and my mom is american and I speak no Chinese... haha i think its actually pretty amusing. Liz if you read this, you can doctor me a fake family picture now! So Im going to go in Sunday I think to help teach a class and then hopefully sign my contract on monday!!!! fingers are crossed and Im nocking on wood.

Anyways, on to more amusing things. So I think a lot of people are well aware of the bootleg market in China. There is a HUGE market in a subway station that sells all sorts of souvenier items and bootleg items like purses, wallets, DVD's, shoes, Beats headphones and almost anything else that you could want. Menley and I decided to go look at the market to look for Rollexs ahaha. I got there super early and a guy approached me whispering, "wallets? purses? dvds?" At first I tried to ignore him and walk away but then i decided, why not go look at wallets and purses? I need a new wallet anways!

Now, you know youre in a good place for bootleg stuff when the people working at the store start pulling stuff out from hidden compartments and suitcases. Which is exactly what these guys did. I bought a wallet while waiting for Menley, but since I knew he wanted a watch too I said I would come back after I met up with Menley. Brought Menley back and we both picked out a watch to buy. The watches these guys have are really nice fakes and when people in Menley's programs saw the watches they all wanted him to bring them there. Over the past week, he probably brought 15-20 people to this same store to buy watches. The people running the store really like us now... we dont even have to bargin with them anymore. they just give us the prices we want. Not even just on the watches! haha so i guess its pretty good to have connections even in the bootleg industry.
