So today was my first day as an English tutor. While it's not really the ideal job that I was looking for, it will have to do for now. My first student is a 6 year old girl names Ya Ya. And the funny thing is I can actually see her house from the window in my room. She literally lives across the road from me. Ya Ya's house is amazing! It is huge and beautiful and fairly well decorated for her family having just moved in a week ago. Ya Ya's parents are very nice, they fed me lunch and gave me a ride home. I am mainly supposed to help Ya Ya improve her speaking skills. She already understands most of what I say but her speaking skills are a little farther behind. But I think we are going to have a lot of fun together in the upcoming weeks.
My second student is a little more iffy... His name is Harry and he is almost three. I'm not sure that his mom liked me very much because I think she was expecting more of a structured class. But at such a young age, its more difficult to sit a kid down and teach them formal classes. Harry also has a lot of energy which is expected from a kid his age. I am just going to have to find a way to channel his energy into educational games and activities. Anyone have any suggestions? Let's get reminicent, everyone who reads this, please comment below what your favorite childhood game in school was!!!
I think tomorrow I will finally actually go climbing. I've tried to go a couple times but everytime I'm about to go, Kevin calls me to come over and hang out. I guess I could have still gone and just not hung out with Kevin, but this last time I skipped climbing because Kevin's friend from NYC, Menley, just got into town and we were all supposed to hang out. I had met Menley a couple years ago when we got stuck in Kevin's apartment in the snowstorm. I would have been pretty funny if he was here for the typhoon too! Menley works for GE and is in Shanghai for a month for training before starting a work rotation in Toronto. Anyways, it was pretty nice seeing him again and we will all probably be hanging out for the rest of the month.

Janelle So excited to hear that you found work! The first kid seems like the perfect first student. Your time there amazing so far. Can't wait to read more!
Matt Well so it's not perfect but at least you're making some money. And if nothing else it is an experience right? Build upon it and take it elsewhere. Who knows, you might just fall in love with it in time. My favorite thing when I was his age was dinosaurs. I'm not sure how helpful that might be...
Matt Oh and don't let that first crappy gym discourage you. There's gatta be a good one somewhere.
ming How about making paper air plans and have a competition to see whose or which plan can fly farther? Or the police and the thief? Of cause you will be the thief, sorry, and the boy will be the police. Good luck.
