So it's been over a month since our last entry and it has been a HUGE month for us!!
It started with the Blue Jays qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in 22 years which was a big thing in Toronto. That same weekend Matt's cousin Nick was in town with an ice cream conference so we went out for some beers and a Mexican meal in the Distillery District. It was a pity that Nick was so busy with the conference and Matt was down in Atlanta with work so we could only catch up for a night, but it was still great to see him!
That week Van did really well to get American League Championship tickets, but on the downside the Blue Jays had lost the first two matches in a best of five series, so the Championship game wasn't looking likely for us. On Friday it was our four year anniversary and we had a reservation to have dinner up the CN Tower. To Van's surprise, Matt also proposed!! Matt had managed to get a bottle of champagne from the chateau we had visited last year and had made a little video about our last four years and some footage of him asking for Trevor and Chings blessing. Van was basically in tears throughout and thankfully she said yes :-) dinner at the CN Tower was delicious and we splashed out on a fish platter, a nice bottle of red and shared a main and dessert.
On Sunday we were invited over to Jenn's place (one of Matt's work colleagues) for Canada Thanksgiving which was a fantastic meal of Turkey, potluck and pumpkin pie for dessert. Thankfully the Blue Jays got their act together and won the next three matches to see them through to the ALC which was the Monday after Van's birthday and the Toronto marathon.
Van's birthday was a low key affair as the marathon was on Sunday, but we still went out for a Mexican meal which was really nice. The next day the All Blacks thrashed the French in the quarterfinal which we watched at Hemingways, a local Kiwi pub. It was a disappointing performance from the French, but it was still good to watch a bit of footy and catch up with friends. On Sunday we had the Toronto marathon which was freezing (there were even snow flurries!!), but Van still managed to achieve her goal time of 3 hours 25 minutes and Matt came in 20 minutes after Van which he wasn't unhappy with based off his training.
Monday was the Blue Jays game which was an incredible atmosphere and that combined with Matt being offered a permanent position has meant that the last month is going to be a hard one to beat!!
