Day 11. Today RM and I went our separate ways, me off with Imogen and the grand kids to Magnetic Island and RM and Elle stayed in Townsville for a bit of swimming and shopping. Our day on Magnetic Island was most enjoyable. It is a lovely place with idyllic beaches and national park. The grand kids swam, we had fish and chips for lunch and two ferry rides to boot! The only drawback turned out to be the public bus, billed as a relaxed way to see the Island. It turned out to be anything but. The drivers drove like maniacs so it was cling on for dear life and protect the children from being flung around rather than admiring the scenery. In addition, the timetable was dodgy and there were long delays between buses. Not ideal when shepherding young children around. However, I loved spending the time with the family so far from home.
Tonight, the CP put on a free sausage sizzle around a campfire. It was well attended and we caught up with folks we met at Reid River. Donations to the RFDS.
