Day 32. Last night, the cloud cleared, allowing us a lovely view of the sun setting over the water of the Gulf. Today we had a chat with Calum and Lucas on Chatty Kidz. Lucas read his first book to me...about a friendly fly. He was very pleased to be able to read a book with me. So was I. What progress we are seeing. Calum read more about Captain Cook and we discussed what 'lashes' meant. They also told us that Spook had to visit the Vet last night, after an injury sustained in an assault by an Artarmon thug dog, became infected! This is becoming a habit when she stays in Sydney. It is not as safe as Bywong, although of course, you have to dodge the snakes there.
Then we packed up and left Karumba. We drove past a few geographical mementoes of Burke and Wills, arriving about 1.30 at the Burke and Wills Roadhouse where we hitched up for the rest of the day and night. They offer all facilities and the promise of a roast dinner. They also offer brown snakes in the toilets, so we must keep the doors closed and hope everyone else does too.
Once again, we have struck a range of nationalities in the restaurants and roadhouses as we move around. Up here there are mainly Irish, the odd Scots person but today at Burke and Wills, our first Finnish backpacker! We also met a couple with an Elle look alike they call a 'kelpingo'!
