Day 42. After a leisurely 'Sunday' breakfast, we went into Rockhampton to Quay Street and the Fitzroy Riverfront. What a beautiful area and an array of lovely nineteenth century buildings. After a stroll along the riverside promenade to admire the river and the buildings, we had coffee and a muffin for 'elevenses' in a beautiful old restored building. Then we drove out to Yeppoon. RM wanted to see some 'Joh' legacy resort there and, after a stately drive to the two world class golf courses and the resort, we continued onto a dirt road which led us to the beautiful Byfield NP and Corio Bay. That was where I wanted to go. The lovely bouncing blue light on the iMap navigation system reassured us that we were indeed headed in the right direction, as there were no signs and the road we were on did not appear on iMap at all.
We emerged onto Corio Bay from the bush and there were a few people and vehicles there, fishing and whatever. We got chatting to a fisher person, who told us we could drive back along the beach, rather than back over the bumpy track. We followed him down onto the beach and away we went. It was magnificent. The beach stretched for miles and was dotted with a few vehicles, people and dogs. There were also people flying above us in propeller driven wind machines of some sort. Amazing! After a walk on the beach, we took a scenic drive back through Yeppoon to Emu Park then back to camp. The only bogan part of the day was the stop at Maccas for a burger!
