Day 10 - Today was checkout day for the Gite, so we had an early start to make sure we could tidy up and get everything packed to be on the road before 10am. We were clearly practiced hands at this as we managed to leave just after 9.30 instead. So it was goodbye Provence and hello to our next stop on our road trip in Cuq Toulza, 40 km or so from Toulouse.
Our journey which should have taken just over 4 hours, took just over 6 instead thanks to 'Samedi Noir'; the black Saturday when what looks like most of France head down south and the roads are jammed.
It was a relief when we finally pulled up outside the hotel, Cuq en Terrasses. What a lovely place. The main hotel is lovely and homely. The room or mini-gite we are in is great for us with the dogs as they can be asleep at night in the lounge and not keep us awake in the bedroom. It's a lounge-diner-kitchen so you could easily stay here longer than the 2 nights. The garden terraces are lovely and the whole place, whilst full (only 5 rooms I think) is very peaceful.
Dinner is served on the terrace from 8pm and is 5 courses. We are going to be stuffed when we leave after the 2 nights.
I am sat on a lounger around the pool as I write part of this blog and a mass of car horns hooting broke the silence as they drove past. Apparently it is a wedding cavalcade. Hope that does not catch on back home.
The rest of the evening started at 8pm with aperitifs, followed by a three course meal which was very good. As the weather is very pleasant everyone was eating on the terrace. The lamb wrapped with vegetables in filo pastry was particularly good. The wine was excellent and was rounded off with a Baileys. The highlight of the evening, which made us laugh, was the live renditions of various musical numbers sung by the chef owner. It all adds to the character.
We are looking forward to breakfast and some new sights to see tomorrow.
