Day 8 - Today we decided to head down to Loumarin, Vaugines and Ansouis. Loumarin, our first stop was at the end of a long and winding mountain road where it reaches 499 metres before winding down to Loumarin.
The town centre is very nice with cobbled streets, plenty of boutique style shops, bars and restaurants. There is also a Chateau but we decided not to visit it. So after an hour of wandering around we headed on to Ansouis, purportedly the most beautiful village in France. It was certainly nice but I preferred Bonnieux.
Whilst in Ansouis we visited the Musee Extraordinaire. A collection of shells, fish, coral etc that the owners father had collected during his passion for diving in the many seas of the world. We had a personal tour, being the only ones in the museum. It was an interesting insight in to one mans hobby. The rest of the museum was decorated with his paintings and pottery; not to our taste. A part of the museum was decorated as if it was underwater; but on a budget. It was very odd but you have to give them credit for trying. It's well worth a visit though, just for the strange experience.
Onwards we went to Vaugines. A small sleepy village where Jean de Florette and Manon de Source were filmed for some scenes of the films.
We saw the church that was used in a funeral scene and the fountain that was possibly used in the film also. It's not a big village but it has some lovely little back streets between the houses.
At the end of the day we finally made it to Gordes to get a picture of the sun setting on the town. Very picturesque.
