Day 5 - Our visit to the Abbaye started following the heavy thunderstorm earlier in the morning. Both of us were woken by a loud thunder clap. As we looked out through the front door we both commented that neither of us had seen a storm quite like it. Lightning occurred almost every couple of seconds and the rain lashed down.
But by morning the thunderstorm had cleared the air and dropped the temperature to more bearbale and comfortable levels. It's after effects were still with us in the form of low cloud and slight drizzle as we headed past Gordes to the Abbaye la Senanque. Even though the weather was not great the lavender outside of the Abbaye was lovely, setting off the old building perfectly. You can see why it is so often photographed.
We didn't stop long and soon made our way back towards Joucas to ride out the remainder of the wet weather. On the way back, with us being high in the hills, the fog rolled in and made the journey along narrow roads interesting to say the least.
