Day 9 - A bit of a lazy morning today. We woke up later than normal and to avoid the strong sun we took the dogs for a walk in the village first.
After breakfast we took a short drive to Rousillon. It's a pretty village with houses painted in the shades of the quarried ochre landscape. Unfortunately, thinking the village was close to the car park we came across, we parked up. However, we soon realised we had a little bit of a trek. Rousillon has lots of parking places as it turns out, but you need to be early as they fill up fast. We looked around the few shops as we made our way to the viewing site at the top of the village where you can see on a map the villages and towns and match them to the landscape around you. Mount Ventoux still has snow on it.
We purchased two hand made side plates in the gallery at the top which will help us remember our trip.
The Sentiers des Ochre was our next stop; a walk around the old quarry area. Whilst we had already done this at Colorado Provençal it was still interesting as they had some boards explaining some of the history.
On the way back to the car we enjoyed a nice vanilla caramel ice cream each, which helped combat the heat briefly; it's 33C today.
Tomorrow we move on to our next stop, so we gave the Gite a good tidy and clean before heading to Cote de Ventoux winery for some samples. We came away with two boxes of 6; white and rose.
Back to Gordes tonight for a final meal in the Provence region. It will be good to move on and see some more of France but we picked a great place in Joucas to stay and there are plenty of attractions in easy driving distance so we have had a packed week of sightseeing.
