Day 13 - Expecting rain we headed for Aurillac to find the old historical quarter. We had a walk around with the dogs but to be honest it was not particularly exciting or interesting. So after about 30 minutes or so we headed back and on the way picked up some food for lunch.
It seemed that the rain was not going to arrive so we decided to head for some gardens in a nearby village near Aurillac. We followed the signs for the Jardins du Puy Gioly but they disappeared after a while. So we headed in a different direction and luckily saw a Tourism office. Between the young mans broken English and my broken French we managed to understand each other and so we headed back out again for the gardens. We thought we found them when we located an area of the same name but could not see the gardens. Back to the Tourist office but this time to get directions to some other attraction. And so we headed for the Gorges de la Jordanne. We eventually reached the attraction and after a couple of attempts at finding a parking space; it was very busy, we headed down to the ticket office.
The area here is in the shadow of three extinct volcanoes and the Gorges I think are part of the slopes of this mountainous area, formed by the river running through it. It was cooler today so it was pleasant to walk along the trails, although Caddy was not best pleased with the steps and bridges which had gaps she could see through, especially the bridge that bounced as you walk across. So we had to carry her at some stages.
I hopefully managed to get some great black and white images of the landscape.
Dinner tonight back at the little hotel and then we will need to prepare for our next stop near Macon.
