I was relieved to finally move into my new B & B and to find it to be a delightful bohemian dwelling full of interesting collectibles from all over - see the picture. It is in the heart of Nottinghill Gate which as those who know London is close to central London and the Royal parks/Kensington Palace etc. Much of the appeal is beyond the main thoroughfare and into Hillgate Village, Portobello Road and all the beautiful mansions, some slightly run down and most divided into apartments but totally charming.
My landlady is a lawyer come artist come B&B host and is very warm and friendly. Two dachshunds also live in the house which makes it even more homey. My room is the basement of this multileveled home and through my window the sounds of the pub next door are heard but more friendly than intrusive. As you can see from the photo this is very comfortable living!
This week has been spent Olympic watching, shopping, eating, being cutural and walking, walking, walking. Spent a great day with friend Lisa from home on Tuesday. At her suggestion we went to the Living in London Photo Exhibition in Victoria Park (east of the city near Olympic Park) . It is a wonderful large sized display of photos arranged along a fence in the park depicting portraits of individuals who live in London but are originally from each of the countries attending the Games. So indicative of the cultural conglomeration which is 21st Century London.
After this we went to scoop up lunch from the famed Ottolenghi and ate this in Kensington Gardens. Lovely to see a friend when you are on your own! We walked back to the tube through an array of foreign embassies exhorting us not to take photos and we wondered what would happen if we did! We looked for the Ecuadorian Embassy briefly and pondered on the fate of Julian Assange.
