First visit to Olympic Park this week- the travel was good, the security was efficient and friendly. The olympic park was much larger than I expected and it took me 30 minutes to walk from the entrance to the Basketball Arena. It's a great thing to have the park so user friendly but it is not so easy for those without tickets to get in. No tickets are sold at the park-all online so you cant turn up and expect to buy a ticket to get into the park. Inside at the time I was there there was quite a crowd and people on loud speakiers telling everyone to 'keep to the left' if you could actually understand what was being said through the distortion. Imagine the Perth Royal Show times about 20!(better though!!!). The hype began from the tube station at Stratford and you had to wave your ticket around to get anywhere from that point.
After finally finding the Basketball Stadium (which I think is temporary) I finally found the right door and then climbed a mountain to get to my seat (the cheapest!!) only to find a French girl sitting in it. We managed to agree that it was my seat- she seemed to be the nanny for the family further along who sorted something out when they returned from gettig a drink. I noticed that they seated one of their children on their knee so I dont know how they got in with an extra person! Then the American woman next to me suggested that 'did I have the correct day?'-(would I have even got in if I had the wrong day-no) Anyhow I was lucky enough to see the Australian Women's team with Lauren Jackson play France. I dont know much about Basketball but knew more after two hours! It was exciting and very close at the end with the Aussie's losing by two (I think!). Basketball is quite unique-I hadnt realised the entertainment factor!! The Aussies were a bit inaccurate in their goal throwing but I dont like to criticise too much!
I didnt stay for the next match but left the BB stadium to explore the park a bit as it was late in the afternoon. Spent some time sitting on the grass watching the men's gym on the big screen-lots of people lazing in the late afternoon sun-sounds pretty idyllic?
