We arrived in London on Thursday, hoping and expecting to be staying in a spacious apartment-what were we thinking?! The most expensive accommodation of our stay has proved to be the smallest !! Very clean and in a great area but studio apartment it definitely is! Bathroom requires extreme sporting body to squeeze into!!
Had a great day on Friday exploring bookshops-but have very many to go!.
We had the bright idea of watching the Olympics Opening Ceremony in Hyde Park-advertised as the place to watch it on big screens with the rest of the world who didnt get tickets. Unfortunately we didnt realise that tickets were required for this as well so we went home a bit disgruntled and watched it on the telly.
Saturday spent on the river at Bermondsey with nephew Drew - revisited some old haunts of 30+ years ago-ie The Mayflower pub (see photos!) and checked out Drew's new abode. This area feels much less touristy than the other side of the river. We caught a bus home up Tooley Street where I reminisced significantly about my old work place which is still standing but is now transformed into apartments.
Sunday spent at Heathrow saying goodbye to Doug and welcome to Holly who arrived from her whirlwind Europe adventure to spend a few days in London before flying home.
