Hannah and Liv's Travel Update
We arrived back in Delhi at 7.45am , after a break of nearly 20 days! We set off after lunch to explore the sights we were yet to see, starting with the Lodi Gardens. This was a beautiful park, a breath of fresh air set in the heart of Delhi, a welcome break from the traffic and pollution. Set in the gardens stands a tomb of Mohammed Shah and an adjacent mosque, very unlooked after considering it was built around 1400 AD. We had a lovely time wandering round in the sunshines, amongst groups of schoolchildren playing. We then walked a long way to the Nizamuddin area, and specifically to Humayan's Tomb, a Moghul garden tomb on which the Taj Mahal was modelled. We walked past the village the workers lived in and a mosque, before walking through the grand gates. It was just as grand and brilliantly structured, different by its bright red colour. The fountains framed it beautifully and the grounds were immaculate. From the top we had a brilliant view of the city surrounding us, and inside were multiple tomb chambers, each decorated with intricate screens carved out of single sheets of thick marble.
When we arrived back to the hotel we met the remaining members of the group for an elaborate meal, which was delicious- rice, garlic naan, papad, mutton curry and murg jal frezi, followed by gulab jamun. Liv also bought our favourite Hindi film which I'm sure we'll enjoy watching when we're back home!
