An interesting little halfway point
After an eventfully long evening the day before and only two hours of sleep, the truck drive the next morning was extremely quiet as everyone passed out. We were on our way to Port St. Johns, a cute little town with dramatic cliffs that meet the edge of the rocky seaside.
The scenery is incredible with a tropical sub-Saharan climate; it's the perfect place for some stunning hikes, rock climbing and fishing. We stayed the night at a campsite called the Pond along the Mzimvubu River in a grassy area with tropical trees all around us; this town had a very calming feel to it.
Once we arrived we had some lunch before going to explore the cute little town, where we stumbled across a crazy backpackers filled with hippy's, called Jungle Monkey. We met up with some interesting people and learnt about a psychedelic harvest party that was happening on the beach that night, which the boys, Dwayne, Glen and Wesley, decided to go looking for but unfortunately they couldn't find it and ended up back at the backpackers where Pearl, Philile, Mpho and Lerato met them after dinner. And once again they stole the show with the boys ending up directing the band and Pearl taking over with her singing talents.
Megan, Sean and Jade left earlier and decided to make use of our country's public transport system by taking a taxi. At first it was just the three of us, then one more person joined and then an entire STA truck load of people got into the taxi, it was quite an experience getting back to the campsite for dinner.
When the others left the backpackers at the end of the night there were no taxi's in operation, so they had to make a new plan. The girls with Mpho and Lerato left before the guys and ended up getting lost as they got dropped off at Amapondo instead of the Pont. They then had a two hour walk back to the campsite because only after a while of walking they found out they were walking in the wrong direction. The boys got a lift back with the police.
That sums up our eventful stay in Port St Johns!
