We woke up a little later than usual as we did not have to spend the morning packing up our tents. After a great breakfast, we made our way into the Tsitsikamma Village for some tree hopping on a Canopy Tour in the forest. Storms River Adventures, the company that did the canopy tours, is a fantastic organisation that has done an incredible job with all the adventure activities they offer.
Not only was the canopy tour very organised and way too much fun, but the locally hired guides were extremely knowledgeable about the area and all the animals that lived in it. We didn’t see too many animals as we were probably the loudest group to canopy through that forest with all the screaming, shouting and singing! Once again, the group could not have been more supportive of each other as we were offering words of encouragement all around.
After the tour lunch was served in the restaurant, we got to view the videos of us screeching across the zip lines. It was hilarious watching everyone’s nervous expressions as they left the safety platform for the first time. It was however so much fun that by the end we were all professionals, even Megan did a zip line by herself.
When we got back to the camp site, we celebrated the winter solstice (the peak of winter and the beginning of longer days) and some of us decided to go swimming. Needless to say, the water was freezing but well done to Pearl, Philile and Sean for giving it a go. The rest of us explored some of the rocky shores along our campsite and did a short, less strenuous walk through the forest which was incredibly spectacular. That night we met up with our Australian neighbours who were doing a similar tour to ours, and after dinner we practically moved in as our whole group slowly congregated around their fire.
