We had an early start for an exciting game drive through the Addo Elephant National Park, where we spotted Elephant and Kudu. Sean made us unceremoniously stop and reverse 50 metres back for an Egyptian Goose during this drive and needless to say, our game spotting skills have much deteriorated from its peak at the Kruger National Park last week.
Once we exited the Addo Elephant National Park on the way to Jeffrey’s Bay, the drive became really beautiful as we saw sand dunes that looked like rolling white hills, with an amazing background of a crystal blue sea. We then headed passed the surprisingly breath-taking city skyline of Port Elizabeth. Once we arrived in Jeffrey’s Bay (a slight detour to this town to retrieve our two stolen spare tyres), we got the opportunity to explore another special and unique town and got the chance to shop in all the brand name factory stores. We learned that J-Bay is one of the fastest growing towns and the best surfing spot in South Africa. It was here that we were treated to a delicious lunch on the beach.
After lunch everyone climbed back on the truck and there were no more detours or stops until we reached our final destination which was the Tsitsikamma National Park, where we all eagerly set up our new ocean view tents for the next two days. The Tsitsikamma is the most extraordinary place we’ve ever seen. The best way to describe it would be as a beautiful, indigenous and natural rain forest situated on the rocky shores of South Africa.
We all got to truly experience this when we hiked up over the suspension bridge to the highest part of the area. It was during this hike that we also got to experience the huge amount of team spirit that this group has developed over this past week! We waited and cheered people on when they got tired and sang songs of encouragement all the way up to the top. Once we arrived at the top, we were overcome with absolute relief and excitement was in the filling the air as tons of pictures were snapped with incredible scenery behind us. Dinner that night needless to say was demolished within a few minutes, after which everyone was exhausted and just relaxed for the rest of the night.
