Our Journey through the Kruger
We got an early start to the day as we headed out to Bourkes Luck Pothole on a cold misty morning, but it was all worth it. The potholes which are formed by the meeting of the Blyde River and Treur River, creates the most remarkable site, filled with potholes of water, mini waterfalls and beautiful climbing rocks. Gods Window was our next destination but unfortunately it was so misty that morning that we couldn't see the views. We still had hope that it would clear and waited there for half an hour before giving up. We started making tracks to the Kruger National Park for lunch, prepared once again out of our useful truck kitchen.
We then took a long game drive around the Kruger National Park on an open roof game vehicle with Kurt from Kurt's Safari's. He was lots of fun and had an extensive knowledge about the park and its animals. Our journey around the Kruger involved spotting some hippos lazing in the river with a terrapin, a fresh water turtle, chilling on the rocks next to them. Before running into some water buck and their babies by the watering hole that they never leave as they use the water as protection, they run into the water when predators approach. We then bumped into some elephants crossing the road. A warthog mom and her babies that we named Pumba, were the next thing spotted before the zebra, impala and giraffe in the distance. We then came across some leopard foot prints that we decided to track for a little while but instead of discovering a leopard like we had hoped we found a small spotted jennet, after which we headed back to the camp site for a camp fire and a delicious Poitjie prepared so lovingly for us by Mariette.
After dinner we decided to extend our game ranging journey by walking around the fence of the camp site to see if we could find any hyenas in the night, we were unsuccessful and clearly needed more practice.
