Warm welcome to Swaziland
Our earliest morning so far, as we all slowly emerged from our tents to get in our one last game drive before hitting the road to Swaziland. I don't know if it was just the early morning or if our game spotting skills had improved but we had a lot more success on this one. We managed to get in a magnificent, African sunrise before spotting a crash of rhinos, a journey of giraffes, another small spotted jennet, a Walberg eagle, a herd of elephants with their babies in tow, a black backed jackal, a majestic leopard sitting in a treetop, the best spot of the day and then some historic crocodiles lazing by the river just as we were about to exit the Kruger National Park.
Further along the way we reached the border control and spiritedly we walked from South Africa to Swaziland, taking tons of pictures while crossing the borderline. We had finally arrived in the grassy green, hilly countryside of Swaziland. Swaziland is a country within a country located in and surrounded by South Africa it gained its independence from colonial rule in 1968. It is now one of the three monarchies left in Africa, ruled by King Mswati the third, it is a beautiful country with a lot to offer. Driving through Swaziland we got to witness some of the smaller town's cultures and history. One of the towns that stands out the most is Pigg's Peak a quaint little town named after Colonel Peak, who settled there years ago to start up a gold mine. After an extraordinary and tranquil drive through the country we reached the campsite for lunch and a beautiful horseback safari ride through the Mlilwane, where we got up close and personal with some zebra, impala, hippopotami and crocodiles.
We got back to the campsite to settle into a delicious lasagne cooked outside using only the hot coals from the fire, before going to watch the traditional Swazi dancers preforming there at their finest for a very interactive audience, made up mostly of our group. In the end everyone joined in for a fun little razzle before congregating together around a bon fire for the night.
Thank you to Big Game Parks for sponsoring the horse riding excursion
