Day 81 Everton Park, Brisbane
In today's clinical microbiology lab, we received our faecal specimens back.... met by a look of horror from the lecturer Mark, as he came over to look at 'brit faeces'. Thankfully, it was not because some scary microbe had grown on my maconkey agar but because my 16 steak technique was looking decidedly dodgy. So dodgy in fact that he joked he would have to revoke my visa so i could stay another semester just to practice this key technique. MAJOR PANIC, of course, especially with the lab exam next week. So, like a 'special kid' i stayed behind at the end with a bacterial suspension, some plates and the friendliest demonstrator i could find to try and master this technique 'even if it took all night'. Well, fortunately for the demonstrator, it only took 2 tries. Having never been taught this technique and switching into this module 2 weeks late, I had never been shown how to do it and stupidly thought it would involve 16 streaks, no?! NO! Many (more than 16!) streaks later, i had a very snazzy looking plate ready for incubation... and still had a valid visa :P :P
