It's Independence Day!! It seems really weird not to be at home for the Fourth of July. There will be no fireworks and cooking out with the family, but we still tried to make the best of it! At school we spent time talking about the U.S. and showing the kids on the map and globe. When we got home we had a cookout. We had ground beef that we had Greta make into hamburgers. I was in charge of making the potato salad. We also made pasta salad, watermelon, corn (maize not sweet corn) and sausages for hot dogs. We invited Greg, Colin, Ellen, and Becky over to feast with us. The Sisters had us sing our National Anthem for the pre-dinner prayer. Becky brought over a cake that she had decorated. It was chocolate. She told us she had ran out of cocoa powder so she just substituted by dumping in hot chocolate packets. It was still delicious!
Joy had found these trivia questions about the US so we all sat around and wrote our answers, then traded to see who won. I did... awful! I think I might have gotten a 40%. I guess I need to brush up on my history knowledge. Sister Pat and Greg tied and won fruit snacks that Joy had. The night was so much fun and a great way to celebrate and spend time with friends during our last week.
