I was back to school today to teach and so excited to see my students! It's amazing how much they have grown since I have been here. When I read to them they didn't trample each other to sit on top of my feet like they did when I first arrived… that is until I brought out the giant dice. I was using the dice to practice counting with them. At first we just counted the dots together, but then when I asked for volunteers to help roll the dice and count they started climbing on top of each other to get a turn. During English at least half of them were able to correctly write the letters that I showed them on the whiteboards and the ones that couldn't are definitely making progress.
Another exciting thing that I discovered is that Annett is taking a lot of my ideas/lessons to help her create her own fun activities in the classroom. While I was gone Annett had used the paint to make the kids' footprints. They looked so cute. I took them home with me and I am going to write out the footprints poem and hang it up. She also had brought the charcoal into her classroom. I am also noticing a lot more of the children's books appear in her classroom as well.
All the teachers were asking if I was feeling better, but Annett told me I lost my power. I'm not exactly sure what she meant by that, but it I think she might be referring to the fact that I just asked what she wanted me to do today instead of asking to do a specific lesson plan.
I think Obama had an accident today because he was gone for half the morning and then he came back in this ridiculous looking corduroy pants and vest combo while they washed his uniform. Later he was falling asleep in class so Eugenia asked him to stand up. Obama cannot stand still so he ended up wandering around the classroom touching everything on the walls until she sent him back to his seat. You can't not love him!
