We have officially been in Kyarusozi for one week. It seems as though we have been here for longer. I absolutely love it here! We are still trying to settle into our routines at school. All the teachers want us to be in their classroom every day to teach music and art so we are attempting to solidify our schedules. We discovered there are more art supplies in the closet than we had anticipated so we are attempting to figure out whether they are actually being used. Today we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and had P2 P3 and P4 modge podge caterpillars and butterflies with tissue paper. Most of them ended up modge-podging the entire paper, but they all loved it which is really all that matters. We have to emphasize making their art projects BIG because they draw everything so tiny.
I'm still trying to find my nitch in baby Nursery because they cannot understand me. My teacher is letting me do more. Most of my lessons with them are simple: writing numbers on the board for them to read or giving them numbers to write on the board. I started giving high-fives to my students when they did a good job and soon all of them were volunteering to come to the board.
Teachers aren't supposed to have favorites, but if I did I think I would choose a three year old boy in my class who goes by Obama. He is by far the cutest kid I have ever seen and he always has this dazed look on his face. I also catch him eating his pencil lead instead of writing his letters, but he is always at school every day.
