Sooo....Dave totally came to Mainz!!! It was Awesome!!! Ann, Jessica, and I went to the Hauptbahnhof to pick him up, although his bus didn't arrive until like 5pm, which kinda sucked because I think it would have been fun to go around Mainz on Friday night, but wasev. So yeah, once we got Dave from the Hbf, we went back to Ann's place in the Augustinerstraße so that he could put his stuff down and get ready to get something to eat or something. We decided that it would be cool to just go to the ReWe and grab something to eat and then have Ann, the resident chef of the day, cook dinner and then have Jörg come over to eat too. So that's what we did. Jessica decided to skip out on dinner b/c she's a slacker () but it was cool nonetheless. Well, when we went to ReWe I decided that it would be a good idea to both make Radlers and drink wine (me being a little bit of a wino and all) so I bought the stuff, and we went from there. Well, Jörg wasn't coming over until like 8, so we just kinda chilled at the table eating cheese (Dave was starving and needed sustenance so he bough some cheese with pepper in it) and drinking wine......we looked so French, except that we were in Germany. Yeah, so then Ann drank like almost the ENTIRE bottle of wine by herself!!.......ok, so it was totally me, but she had a fair amount too! And then Jörg came just in time to eat, and we had a good ole time eating and seeing me spill tomato sauce on myself......yeah, I am that clumsy. So yeah, as we were eating, Ann tells us that Eli was going to come with us to the Battle of the Bands, which was cool b/c Eli is a really nice girl (short for Elizabeth btw).
When we got to the Battle of the Bands it was REALLY loud! Like you have no idea. But that was cool, we just went to the bar and pushed our way towards the front hoping to see the band Semuc, who are friends of Ann's and Eli's. However, we didn't get that close, but we got close enough. It was all cool though. But it was really funny b/c like Ann was slightly intoxicated (aka she was trashed) and she kept grabbing Jörg and making out with him then turning to Dave and being like, "Ok, I'm all yours now" which I though was funny, especially when Dave turned to me and was like, "Yeah, so you and I are the collective third wheel" not really, but it was still just a great night out. I think we finally left there around 1 or 1:30 with the intention to meet up the next morning to quickly go around Mainz before we had to leave to go to Frankfurt to catch our train to Groß Karben to eat with Ann's family.
Wow......Sat morning came really fast. Like I was up and all, but I felt like I got no sleep. So yeah, then I went down to Leichofplatz and met up with Ann and Dave, who were on their way to the H&M to take Dave's pic (pronounced "ha und emm"). We walked around there for a bit, then ran to Schillerplatz to meet Julia, then back to Ann's place to quickly grab some clothes for she and Dave so that we could go to Frankfurt. We caught the train at Römisches Theater, and were on our way. When we got to Groß Karben, we had to walk to Ann's house, but it was cool b/c she is from a really nice little town. We finally got to her house and it was AMAZING!! It's like really quaint, and beautifully decorated.....I want to life there. So her mom met us and was like, "So, we're only going to speak in German" which was cool since I mean we were all German majors or minors so we should be able to speak German. So we did. Then the food came....OMG THE FOOD!!! Ann's father is probably THE BEST COOK EVER!! It was amazing!! I totally wish that my mom could cook like that. OMG. So yeah, after we finished that, we took a break before dessert and Ann showed us her old room, which is now her brothers room. Then we sat around and talked amongst ourselves while Ann and her mom cleaned the kitchen and made dessert. ( we spoke in both languages if anyone is interested) Then the dessert came, Ice Cream and raspberries.....delicious, once again. Afterwards, we just talked and then finally it came time to leave. Isaac and I were going back to Mainz for the night, while Dave and Ann were staying in Groß Karben so that they could go to Arna's recital the next morning.
The next morning/afternoon I got up and got ready to catch the train into Frankfurt so that I could get to the concert in the Dreikönigskirche by 4:30 to meet Dave and Ann. I made it, and it was AWESOME. They played Requiem by Durufle and then an original piece by a composer who is a friend of Ann's family. It was all really cool. Afterwards, Ann was really anxious to get back to Jörg so we went and ate dinner in Mainz at Lomo. We had tortellini, and multiple cocktails......multiple. Then we got the idea to make a sign for Dr. Martin saying, "Hey Jimmay, Grüße aus Mainz!!" So we made it.....around 12:30 that night then got Jörg to take a picture of us holding it. I then e-mailed it to Dr. Martin and he totally got a kick out of seeing it. Afterwards they walked me to the bus station and I went home.
It was really cool to hang out with Dave in Germany. I wish he was staying a whole semester, but alas, he is not. Oh well, I guess Ann and I will just have to go to Ireland before he leaves.....though we'll have to take Jörg too because he's just THAT awesome and things wouldn't be the same without him!!!! :-D
