Day 2 and well on the way to ticking all the boxes.
Treviso, is Venice without the crowds, sunflowers on umbrellas, tour guides with microphones and selfie obsessed "people" blocking bridges and narrow passages.
Treviso just also happens to be the home of Beneton, Sisley and Geox so now, with a full quota of tee shirts, a fine wool jumper, shoes, socks and a coat/jacket it's probably time to start the sightseeing. After a fairly solid workout, Jean's credit card seems to have got over its inclination to linger in ATMs and other machines - probably a bit of jet lag but it's all good now.
Our hotel is in the old part of town, that is, a town settled before the Romans had their first chariot. So I was mildly bemused to hear that our hotel was described as "not being up to date". Parquetry floors, marble entrance, it reeks of character. Cobbled stone streets and marble footpaths, arched colonnades and medieval frescoes on the walls of former villas and palazzi, why come to a place like this if you want " up to date"?
Anyway, we love it and that's all that matters. Today was strictly "a piedi" so nothing to report in the bus and train front.
Last night Jean finished the day with a green spinach risotto with tiny scallops that tasted straight from the sea and I had a spaghetti with crab in a very light tomato and cream sauce, washed down with a glass of soave which I must say was very suave.
Tomorrow looks a little more promising with a bus trip north into the Dolomite to Conegliano where Sarah did a spell in a language school with Swinburne and then to Valdobbiagene on a bus that according to the Tourist Office here, doesn't exist. So stay tuned.
