After having mastered the Garmin GPS after yesterdays effort, the ride out of Alberobello was without incident. Our first stop was in Polignano a Mare, just in time for the 2 day World title cliff diving competition. And stop we did, multiple times because despite what the GPS had in mind as a direct route, most of the streets were blocked off and most of Puglia were there. People everywhere and asking the Carabinieri for directions was pointless as most seemed to have been drafted in from outside of the town. The street sweepers were the most helpful and we found our way down multiple one way streets, ( the wrong way) which was OK because it’s Italy and we were only going one way.
The cliff diving was something else, terrifying to watch and even more so to do I’d guess.
After an hour or so of this, a coffee and a cake we were back on the road to Monopoli.
Once again the accomodation was fantastic, another Palazzo and this one faced the Piazza. Unfortunately, it rocked on until about 2:00am during which time the noise cancelling ear buds came into their own.
Time to lash out so we found a little fish restaurant and had yet another magnificent meal. Puglia is not a place to come to loose weight.
So tomorrow, we are off to Ostuni, the classic hill TOP town, no doubt full of stairs - Jean will be pleased. Can’t wait to see how she handles the ride up to it.
