Zubiri to Pamplona Do you know that feeling when you hear the church bells and you count the number of bongs and hope it is not the number which tells you to get up? I counted and hoped it would stop at 6 but it went on to 7 and it was time to rise and face the day ahead. I am staying at an albergue (a hostel for peregrinos) and they are numerous throughout the Way. Typically, bunk bunks in a shared dormitory with showers and other facilities and costing between €8 and €15 for a bed for the night. Ear plugs are a vital requirement! The day is very overcast with a threat of heavy rain and so I repack my rucksack so that the waterproofs are easy to get to. The first three days of the Camino are probably the toughest of the entire journey and so I am not surprised that my body still aches a little but my mind tells me that easier days lie ahead. The heavy rain turned out to be a very light drizzle and the cool breeze is very welcome and ideal for walking. It is a lovely walk today through tiny quiet hamlets and woodland paths, occasionally alongside the river. We walk through changing landscapes until we hit the twin towns of Trinidad de Arre and Pamplona. Walking through the city outskirts into the citadel in Pamplona seems odd after the serenity of the outdoors trails. This is bullfighting and bull running country and Ernest Hemingway is still very much idolised here. Tonight I am staying in the Hemingway Hostel and tomorrow I'll take a look around the sights.
