India and Nepal 2022
Belarado to Villafranca A cloudy blustery day gives me time to think and reflect on the Camino so far and to consider what brings people here. There are two concepts of 'Camino' - one is the physical path from the French Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia; the other is the personal Camino which is your own individual journey. People are walking for different reasons - some based on deeply held religious or faith beliefs; some following bereavement or relationship issues; some for spiritual purposes. My own reasons are quite simple - for adventure and a challenge. I like the sense of not knowing what each day will bring, what I will learn, who I will meet and where I will stay. As I near my landmark birthday, I also want to test myself to see what I can achieve both physically and mentally on this Camino. Yesterday, I came across a man from Germany with Parkinson's Disease who was an inspiring individual facing adversity head on and winning through. The Camino certainly gives you a sense of perspective about what is important in life and how others deal with life's challenges.
