India and Nepal 2022
Boadillo to Carrion de Los Condes At 7.15am it is completely dark with only the stars and a quarter moon to offer a twinkling light on the village streets. So I was glad to have packed my head torch to seek out the way markers at this early hour. As the deep red sky opened a new day, the forest trees provided a perfect silhouette to provide a scene you can only get at this time of day. Walking along the waterway and listening to the rustling of trees and birdsong and seeing the sun gently rise over the Meseta, I thought of my Dad. Throughout his life, he got up between 5.30 and 6am and I always remember his words, "it's the best time of the day, son" Dad, this morning, you are so right.... With a 27km day ahead, progress is really good. Part of the day is walking on the 'senda' - a specially made pathway for pilgrims alongside the main road. Then, we discover an alternative Camino route and follow the river for a few miles along a little used trail, still wet from the overnight dew. Pretty tired on arrival at Carrion de Los Condes, a real Camino town. A hot shower, jug of sangria and a good sleep are now lined up.
