India and Nepal 2022
Viana to Navarette It has been a sluggish start to the day, walking through industrial land and city outskirts and it took me a while to find my rhythm. After a few miles, I crossed over from Navarra Province to La Rioja region which seemed like a significant moment on my journey. The next big town was Logrono which has a university and cathedral and other various other ancient buildings. Today is Saturday and so there are lots of impromptu celebrations going on including men singing and playing music, dressed up in what looked like toothpaste tubes! The walk out of the city took me through some of the wine growing parts of this region and the local farmers were busy harvesting the grapes. It is a public holiday tomorrow and celebrations began tonight in the small town of Navarette where I stayed overnight. The local people were all smartly dressed and I heard firecrackers in the area near the church. Tapas tonight consisted of octopus and meatballs and it was good to meet up with Margita and Ed and Carol for dinner in the tiny village square.
