Moratinos to Calzadilla de Los Hermanillos The Camino may have long and tiring days but I never find it boring. There are always things to see, hear, taste, touch and smell and thoughts to be shaped. Today there have been so many types of way markers and scallop shell symbols for example. After a short day yesterday and Margita's 14 hour sleep to overcome the food poisoning bug, we were raring to get walking on the Camino once more. We passed through the very pleasant town of Sahagun onto the farmland frontier town of Calzadilla de Los Hermanillos for tonight's stopover after a 24 km walk in the hot sun. The scallop shell has been synonymous with the Camino for centuries. There are several Camino routes, the most popular bring the one I am walking, the Camino Frances and all converge on Santiago de Compostela, hence the lines on the shell leading to a central point. The scallop shell was also used for practical purposes by the ancient peregrinos - to drink water from and to act as a makeshift bowl for food. The scallop shells are also found extensively on the shores in Galicia which I hope to discover at the end of my Camino journey.

Lynne Love the scallop symbolism :-) Really enjoying your blog and feeling the highs and relative lows as you feel "every f inch". Hope you maintain your fitness level for the rest of your journey.
Richard Hayes Lynne, many thanks for all your comments- much appreciated. In Leon now.
