Santo Domingo to Belarado Saint Domingo is a hero around these parts as he was a great supporter of the Camino many centuries ago, building a bridge for peregrinos and providing places to stay. Part of his legend is associated with chickens and appropriately, two roosters from the garden of the albergue crowed at six o'clock this morning. The Way moves from La Rioja to the province of Castilla y Leon and each region has its own ideas of how to signpost parts of the route. The route today, in part, tracks the main highway to Burgos which I hope to reach by the weekend. I tend to disregard signs indicating distance to Santiago - after walking 5km further than the sign showing 555km to go, I saw another saying 576km to go! During the mid afternoon, my left boot finally gave up and the front piece flapped open. This is a moment for a calm head and ingenuity plus a lot of duck tape to get me a few more miles worth of walking before I need to switch to my replacement pair! After a 15 mile walk today, we reach Belarado which is is a pretty town and we are staying at an albergue in the centre where we will have a communal meal later with other peregrinos.
