Next stop was Checkpoint Charlie, the border crossing between East and West Berlin, an extremely significant historical site. Although the area is much more kitschy and mobbed by tourists these days (a McDonalds lies directly behind it, the ultimate triumph of capitalism), it was really neat to see the spot where the two parts of the city, the two ideologies met, in the days when the Cold War was king.
