After Checkpoint Charlie, we headed down the street to the Topography of Terror, a permanent exhibition set up on the grounds of the headquarters of the Gestapo and the SS, the Reich Head Security Office. Next stop was Checkpoint Charlie, the border crossing between East and West Berlin, an extremely significant historical site. Although the area is much more kitschy and mobbed by tourists these days (a McDonalds lies directly behind it, the ultimate triumph of capitalism), it was really neat to see the spot where the two parts of the city, the two ideologies met, in the days when the Cold War was king.

Good day today. Went down Friedrichstrasse to go see Checkpoint Charlie. Along the way, however, we found a showroom with the second coolest car we've seen on the trip, the Bugatti Veyron. Only the Batmobile is awesome enough to unseat the Veyron, which is a marvel of engineering, going 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, with a max speed of over 320 kph. Beautiful.

Did a Third Reich tour today after switching rooms and spending part of the morning enjoying the beautiful morning in the Tiergarten. Decent tour, although it covered sites we'd already explored on our own, like the Reichstag and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
