Today was a day spent travelling from Lake Tinaroo to Mount Surprise. It was during this drive that Doug pointed out that because my singing is sooo good, I should savour my voice and only let it be heard once a year! Yeah righteo Ed Sheeran!
The drive took us through Ravenshoe where the fatal cafe explosion had occured just days before - A very solemn sight to see.
Innott Hot Springs were also along the way. The spring is a natural mineral spring which has created a very narrow stream of surface water. It wasn't at all pretty to look at but was interesting all the same. In places you could see slight bubbling in the stream as the water rose from the depths below. It is in these places that the water is known to be up to 75 degrees celcius. Ponds of warm water exist right alongside ponds of near-boiling water which meant our toes got burnt a few times while exploring.
When we reached Mount Surprise we were so pleased to find that decent sunshine was available to us for the first time in 11 days. We set up camp at Bedrock Village Caravan Park where we would stay for two nights - our main intention being to visit the Undara Lava Tubes which were only a short distance away.
