All the small things or: a half-kiwi's life

Sometimes people ask me: what do you do all day long? (Okay, apparently, nobody has asked me yet, but I thought it's a good way to start this blog…)

Well, and now, what do I do all day long ?
First of all, at 7.00 am, „So What" from Pink gets me out of my dreams. It's pretty hard though to get up, because compared to my cosy bed, the room is really cold. Yes, room isolation is quite a new word for New Zealanders.

Schnell meine Kleider angezogen (aaah, kalt !!!) geht's dann ab in die Küche, wo ich mir mein Frühstück mache, beziehungsweise Toaste. Kiwis essen Toast. Vieeeel Toast. Zwischendurch bekomme ich richtig Lust auf ein feines St.Galler Brot. Oder Zopf. Mhhh. Genug davon.
Zum Toast gibt's Olivani (eine Art Butter, aus Olivenöl - echt lecker!) und Tee, wie es sich gehört mit einem Schuss „Milch" (diese Milch nennt sich Calzi-trim, rühmt sich nur 0.00000000001 Prozent Fett zu haben und 200 Prozent mehr Calzium zu enthalten als normale Milch. Habe ich schon erwähnt dass ich die Schweizer Milch vermisse?)
Zum Frühstück wird traditionell eine Art „Guten-Morgen-Neuseeland" Show geschaut, immer mit den Neuesten Rugby Nachrichten und was Neuseeland sonst so bewegt.

After finishing breakfast, I get upstairs again, brush my teeth and so on and then leave to catch my bus (right round the corner). And if you're in New Zealand, you've got to remember one thing, concerning buses: They won't stop to pick you up, unless you give a signal the driver to stop (like holding your hand up, as if you want tos top a Taxi) I got to know that after three buses had driven right past me, NOT STOPPING, leaving me standing there like an idiot. No, I always wave like an idiot, just to be sure. When you get into your bus, you say of yourse „Hello" to the driver, who most probably will do the same. And when you get off, you say „thank you".

Um 8.30 beginnt dann der Unterricht. Obwohl, Unterricht eigentlich das falsche Wort dafür ist. Die Atmosphäre ist, nun sagen wir mal „chillig". Bis 10 Minuten Verspätung interessiert hier keinen. (Und vermutlich auch nicht, wenn es mehr ist, bis jetzt nie vorgekommen). Die Lehrer werden natürlich geduzt und nehmens auch nicht immer ganz so ernst („Do you have any gossip you want to tell me?") und haben Teilweise recht eigenartige Methoden (the mexican hat dance um die Betonung von conditional-clauses deutlich zu machen, running dictations) Kaugummikauen ist nicht nur erlaubt sondern absolut erwünscht.

At 10.30 the morning lesson is over and you can go to the learning centre (where you can do your homework or do other stuff) or have a coffee in one of the many little Cafés in the city. At the university right on the other side of the street are some cheap lunch opportunities, whre you can have Burgers, Fush and Chups, Cheese Maccaroni , Wraps and much more.

At 12.50, the afternoon lesson start, and at 14.50 your school day is already over. You could now go tot he student cafe and write some emails (which is first quite trickz, because zou have to realiye that the z and the y are not at the same place… but you get used to it and now i have reallz big problems with mz labtop…)

Und falls man Lust auf einen Kaffee oder etwas Süsses hat, so bietet die Innenstadt auch unzählige Möglichkeiten. Neben Atbekanntem (Starbucks) gibt es dutzende kleine Coffeeshops und Cafés mit leckeren Mochas, Chai Lattes und Kuchen.Die besten Cookies der Welt (sorry Tammy ;)) gibt's übrigens bei Mrs Higgins Mein persönliches Ziel ist es ja, alle erhältlichen Cookies durchzuprobieren. Heute an der Reihe war white chocolate & macadamia. Mhhhhh…

Zuhause angekommen gibt's auch schon bald Abendessen (in my homestay just gorgeous). Danach kurz geduscht und ab vor den Fernseher (eastenders - graunenhafte Telenovela, jedoch ganz unterhaltsam). Die Neuseeländer selbst haben übrigens eine wirklich sehenswerte Serie namens „Nothing Trivial" im Programm.

Danach ab ins Bett.

And guess what? I've had my first dream in english. How cool's that??
