Hello everyone!
So, for the first time possibly since I got here, I actually have the time to write things down properly. The only problem is, everything is so fast and hectic, and I have written at such random times, I have no idea what I have and haven't written! Firstly, thank you very much for all the lovely messages. They make me smile.
So, recently we have had the first session plays. I should explain camp is split into two four week sessions, with turnover (3 days off) in the middle. Those sessions are also split into 2 week sessions for the youngest campers, and the oldest campers will stay for both 4 week sessions, so will stay with us the whole summer. But the camp schedule mostly revolves around the 2 4 week sessions. Our play was an adaptation of alice in wonderland. As far as I know, it was really good. However, I can't be sure, as rather than watching it in the audience, I managed to get myself back stage spinning giant pieces of scenery and props about, because the drama staff didn't have enough help. Well done me. It was quite good fun though. We saw the camp airy (boys camp) play last night, it was an adaptation of bye bye birdie and was hilarious.. for various reasons.
Yesterday I had 2 groups on ropes; one in the morning, one in the afternoon. In the morning we did the rock wall and it went really well, but in the afternoon I chose to do the pamper pole. The first girl who wanted to go up seemed really enthusiastic, reached the top in seconds, then sat down and firmly refused to move. We're not allowed to let them climb back down so I had to stand, holding onto a rope and persuading her down for 20 minutes! When she finally did slide off, she got down and started crying, I felt really bad. All the others really enjoyed it, but I distinctly remember being just like that when I was a bit younger.. talk about a guilt trip!
We've finally had a bit of rain and the temperature drop is amazing. Almost cool enough to be comfortable! It happens every week or so, with the weather getting hotter and hotter, till there's a storm and some rain, then it cools down again. No fire ban now though! Which I'm very happy about as I have NUTS tonight and tomorrow night, and really need to be able to cook 30 children a hot meal.
What else? I'm still amazed that I went to DC, and I already want to go back and see it again, I don't feel like I took it all in.
I'm going to go now, people are waiting. Miss you all lots. Lots of love, Lucy xx
