Hey everyone!
So quick update from where I left this... There have been a lot of meetings this week, about what to do when the kids get here, how to plan activities, medical stuff, first aid, homesick children... basically lots of paperwork. But there has also been so much fun stuff!! A couple of days ago I went caving for the first time. It was amazing. The caves are really deep and massive. We had to slide on our stomachs through the first bit, but then it opened up into some amazing caverns. There were bits where you literally could not see the bottom of the drop you had to climb over. I loved it. But slightly nervous about takng the kids there. Apparently we're one of the only camps still allowed to do it.
I'm pretty intensely bruised, from the caving and the "team building games" we've been doing with the brother camp outdoors team in order to "build trust" (my trust was built when I nearly fell off a ladder in the caves and someone caught me). Tonight we're going to camp airy, the brother camp, for a trial run at a cookout and camping, so we're ready for when the campers get here.
Yesterday we went on a short hike to high rock, the highest point in marylan/pennsylvania, then off to a creek where we take the younger campers for day hikes. Then we went to the rodeo! So much fun, until the guy got stood on by a bull and I thought he'd broken his spine. It wasn't it was his leg so not so bad.. bit scary though. Bulls are big!
The camp is pretty a,mazing. I love the swimming pool. though the slides are waaaay too fast. I did swim screening the other day, so got to play aorund once they'd realised I could swim a legnth. There's a gym and sports courts, theatre, social hall, dining hall, tennis courts, ropes courses and camping sites all within camp. I'm still getting lost!
Anyway, have to go now. More things to learn!
Lots of love xxx
p.s., the caving was in west virginia, so that;s my 4th state visited in less than a week (and also leads to lous singing of 'country roads')
