Yesterday Josh and I went to Mossman Gorge. This meant a car ride on the ferry across the Daintree River. We stopped at the Daintree Village before heading to the gorge. There is a new information centre and visitors can no longer drive to the gorge itself instead you go by shuttle bus. Unfortunately a bridge was broken so we were only able to walk a third of the track which was dissapointing. We headed back into Mossman and back on the ferry to camp. The rain wasn't as persistent (had been raining since we arrived) so that was a bonus. Today we said goodbye to Cape Tribulation and headed towards Cairns. We stopped at Port Douglas for breakfast (in our finest bush camp attire and smell - attracted some mozzie type bug that left red dots where it had bitten but as with most things on this trip it was nothing that some dettol antiseptic couldn't fix) and had a walk around. Quite pretty - would be stunning on a sunny day. We then made our way to Cairns. Josh had the spare tyre fixed before we checked into to the caravan park. We had our first proper shower in 5 days (yay!!) and then utilised the washing machines (they don't miss you with the cost). We went into the esplanade and had a stroll around the night markets and shops (also spotted the suss looking jelly babies at the art centre) Lots of people - Cairns is a happening little hub. We will do some more sightseeing tomorrow.
