Josh and I spent 5 days at Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park. There isn't a word I can think of that describes Lawn Hill to do it justice. It is truly a beautiful and magical place. It's like being in the garden of eden. Amazing. It's a huge gorge with emerald green water surrounded by red rock cliffs. Pictures do not do this place justice - ok so maybe my pics don't, I will need to put some of Josh's up. Our time at the gorge is as follows: We arrived on Sunday, we set up camp (one of the best national park campgrounds we have stayed in - flushing toilets and showers (they are cold but it's been around 28 degrees so showers are timed to be taken at the hottest
part of the day). We did the wild dog dreaming walk which takes you down to the lower gorge lookout passing some sacred aboriginal art sites along the way and the cascade walk which leads you to a section of the lower gorge. Monday we hired a canoe and paddled (josh did most apparently I caused us to go in circles) to Indarri Falls and the Upper Gorge. Loved it. Mid afternoon we did the Duwadarri lookout and Indarri Falls walks - the Duwadarri lookout looks out over the middle gorge - Steep 270 metre climb up but worth it. Indarri Falls leads you down to the falls. Again its such a beautiful spot. Late afternoon we did the Island Stack walk which again is a steep 200 metre climb to the top of the rock/cliff. The walk then takes you around the top - lots of really red rock and really green grass/plants plus great views over the gorge. Tuesday we drove to the Riversleigh World Heritage Fossil site and did the walk seeing turtle, crocodile and bird fossils. We stopped at Adels Grove which is an iconic campground (though expensive in comparison to our $10.60 a night for the two of us) and had a quick look before heading back to the gorge. Mid afternoon I donated a gold coin and grabbed a tyre tube and went for a float in the gorge for a while. Later in the afternoon we did the Constance Range walk. This leads you to another cliff/rock that overlooks the island stack but also looks out beyond the gorge. Another breath-taking view. The sunset on Tuesday was purple, pinks and orange - magic. On Wednesday we did the longest walk at Lawn Hill to the Upper Gorge lookout - the walk winds up the cliff to the lookout - beautiful. The track then leads you along the gorge back to the waterfalls. It tooks us just over a couple of hours. In the afternoon we donated some more gold coins in exchange for a couple of tyre tubes. We walked up the track so we were upstream and floated back down the gorge. Thursday was spent relaxing around our camp/the gorge and walking one of the tracks we did earlier in the week. We also went to Adels Grove to pick up a couple of groceries and to top up with fuel. The moon was glowing orange when it rose on Thursday night. It looked awesome as it was a full moon. It is such a shame that we have to leave. This is one place that everyone should visit. I'd be willing to hire out the camper so you could. Next stop: Mt Isa
